update sites not working on 64bit linux edition

Trying to install the Subversion plugin from it's recommended update site http://subclipse.tigris.org/update_1.4.x is resulting in an "assertionerror" I get in a dialog box without further explanation.
Beta versions and CR1 version was unaffected by this problem; also the 32 bit version of CR2 appears to work correctly.
Not being able to use SVN is quite critical IMO, but I didn't experience problems with other update sites (i.e. maven is installing correctly)
