There is a combobox option which makes it editable (not read only).

So you could populate combobox values if there is estableshed connection.
Add connection listener to the Teiid instance(I think there is no problem) and auto populate the comboboxes values on connection establishing.
If the connection is not established provided combobox values will be empty, but the user will be able to enter his value like it is now.
