However, this is only a tangentially related issue. The real issue here is that as the OP states, a rename of a server is merely cosmetic. The server's secret workspace location still uses the original name (now known as the id). So while the "name" has changed, the "id" did not change. In this case, the issue is that creating a new server checks to see if the 'id' is in use, not the name.
