Therefore, it is not possible to update the Tomcat server version with a newer version of Tomcat. This may not be needed for Apache distributions but we may very well want to support EWS patches. Note, there are subtleties here as the EWS patch could affect multiple versions of Tomcat and also Apache. So, it may be the case that only relevant portions of the patch get applied. If the whole patch is laid down then multiple resources could be affected. It's not totally clear what the best option would be, or which would be most easily performed.
