Shouldn't you decide first if it's expected behavior or not? May be javadoc need
to be fixed, not java code.

According to JavaDoc AbstractFromImpl::getJoin() shall return empty set if no joins were
made, not null reference.
Either javadoc or AbstractFromImpl behavior shall be fixed.
