i'm going to mark this as resolved, but some one also report that there is test in
hibernate-core hangs forever.
i can't reproduce it on my local, but it may relates to
http://issues.gradle.org/browse/GRADLE-1511
clean gradle local cache (by default it is ${user.home}/.gradle) may help
running hibernate functional test cases on DB matrix
