For Oracle it is a best practice to add for all foreign key columns an index. Otherwise
Oracle needs to apply a full "table-level" lock (as opposed to the usual
row-level locks) to the child table when the parent table is modified.

With the current implementation, you have to add the index by additional SQL scripts or a
mapping file with <database-object>. This is error prone :-(.

I have trouble adding an index to a column of a table which is part of a many-to-many
property mapping. The following example causes a NullPointerException when generating the
DDL (the exception can be seen at the end of my post):
