I don't see the benefit.
First, how can a sequence value be a floating-point value in the first place?
Second, IdentifierGenerator is an extension point; writing a custom impl that delegated to
the standard sequence generator and wrapped the sequence result in a BigDecimal should be
trivial.

An oracle column with Number(22,0) isn't floating point but is still reversed as a
BigDecimal. BigDecimal support in IdentifierGeneratorFactory would seem to make sense in
this case. Unless the sql type is being incorrectly reversed. Perhaps it should be a
BigInteger instead?
I will be able to use a GenericGenerator to get round this.

Can you please give some more details as to how that would be accomplished. I am using
Sybase / JPA via JBoss 4.2.2. I would like to have my PK fields mapped to BigInteger in
the JPA entity and then implement IdentifierGenerator but, I'm not sure how to hook it
all up. Pleas advise.

BigDecimal with a scale of 0 would approximate an integer (zero significant digits right
of the decimal).
Floating point values as a PK makes zero sense. JDBC type mapping suggests that both
DECIMAL and NUMERIC SQL types be mapped to BigDecimal which is why the driver is reporting
them that way. Really these columns should be defined as INTEGER or BIGINT which are the
SQL defined integer datatypes.

The underlying issue that I am having is Sybase specific which is; If you use Long or
Integer than the underlying index is not used due to a type conversion under the covers
which means that a full table scan is taking to do a look up by PK!. You have to map to
BigInteger or Big Decimal to actually get it to use the index. I tried to go the
IdentifierGeneratorFactory but, ended up just using the @Type annotation approach as laid

@aleksander Well IdentifierGenerator is an interface. when it is asked to configure(...)
itself it is given all the information you could need. I am not going to do the work for
you. There are plenty of IdentifierGenerator implementations you could look at as
examples of what you might need to do for your situation.
