OOTB Embedded broker in WildFly Preview
by Brian Stansberry
Emmanuel (and anyone),
WDYT about going back to not having the embedded broker in the OOTB configs
in WildFly Preview 27? (Or perhaps 28.) It got restored this summer
during the big-bang work in order to make that work easier, but not having
it OOTB in WFP was a conscious decision about how we thought
forward-looking users should look at things. (Using the embedded broker was
still possible, with an example config to illustrate how to set it up; it
just wasn't in the standard configs.)
We've never done a .Final WFP release with an embedded broker in the
standard configs, so if we think we shouldn't have that it's better IMHO to
get rid of it before WF 27 Final.
I *think* removing it again would be pretty straightforward. The biggest
pain associated with not having it was needing to exclude a lot of tests
when WFP was used, but I think those exclusions are mostly still there.
There's a JIRA for this (https://issues.redhat.com/browse/WFLY-16714) that
I've just now scheduled for 27.0.0.Final. That scheduling is just so it
appears on my radar screen for WF 27; it's not a demand that we do it.
Best regards,
Brian

Add Nighlty CI tests for Eclipse Temurin
by Jean-Frederic Mesnil
Hi,
In a mail thread yesterday, I mentioned a proposal to switch to Eclipse Temurin for our WildFly Docker images.
Brian kindly reminded me that it’d be better to test WildFly with that JDK distribution before publishing the images :)
@Ken, do you think we could add Nightly jobs[1] to test WildFly main on Temurin JDK 11 & 17? We could start with running jobs for
* WildFly Standard - Linux - Temurin JDK 11
* WildFly Standard - Linux - Temurin JDK 17
* WildFly Preview - Linux - Temurin JDK 11
* WildFly Preview - Linux - Temurin JDK 17
This would provide a good coverage of WildFly on these JDK distributions.
Best regards,
Jeff

Schedule for WildFly 27 Beta1 and Final
by Brian Stansberry
As we wrap up our work on WildFly 26.1.2 and on our EE 10 compliance for
WildFly 27, I've been having some discussions re target dates for WildFly
27 Beta1 and Final.
The following is what we're looking at:
27.0.0.Beta1:
WF Core feature freeze -- Friday Sep 9
WF feature freeze -- Monday Sep 12
Tag and release -- Wednesday Sep 14 / Thur Sep 15
27.0.0.Final:
WF Core feature freeze -- Friday Sep 23
WF feature freeze -- Monday Sep 26
Tag and release -- Wednesday Sep 28 / Thur Sep 29
Beta1 will be like all WF betas in recent years -- feature complete and
using .Final production code dependencies except for WF Core and _perhaps_
one or two other components where we know we can produce and integrate a
.Final within a day.
Note that I expect we'll do a 27.0.0.Alpha5 at some point between now and
Beta1. That will be like the other alphas for 27; just a deploy to JBoss
Nexus and addition of the zip/tars to the downloads page. We'll do this to
support our EE 10 compatibility certifaction requests.
Best regards,
