The fix is to use Types.BIT instead of Types.BOOLEAN. This is done by overriding Dialect.getSqlTypeDescriptorOverride(int sqlCode) in Orcle8iDialect to return BitTypeDescriptor when sqlCode is Types.BOOLEAN.
