This would support users (e.g. me ;) in their effort to keep persistence annotations clear of database specifics. Additionally @IndexColumn is a rather often used annotation and it's tedious to repeat the same information (i.e. the 'name') over and over again. I'd propose 'hibernate_index', similar to the defaults in net.sf.hibernate.id.TableGenerator.
