[JBoss JIRA] (ISPN-5993) ClassCastException in ProtobufMetadataManagerInterceptor for clear
by Adrian Nistor (JIRA)
Adrian Nistor commented on ISPN-5993:
-------------------------------------
Since clear is now non-tx we can just remove the lines of code that attempt to lock .errors key and the issue is gone.

> When handling a {{ClearCommand}}, {{ProtobufMetadataManagerInterceptor}} tries to lock the {{.errors}} key explicitly, but because the clear operation now ignores transactions, the invocation context is not transactional, and the lock fails.
> Normally the protobuf cache should never be cleared, but it does happen when the test suite clears the caches between methods:

[JBoss JIRA] (ISPN-6036) Support custom KeyPartitioners in the HotRod server and client
by Dan Berindei (JIRA)
Dan Berindei created ISPN-6036:
----------------------------------
Summary: Support custom KeyPartitioners in the HotRod server and client
Key: ISPN-6036
URL: https://issues.jboss.org/browse/ISPN-6036
Project: Infinispan
Issue Type: Feature Request
Components: Remote Protocols
Reporter: Dan Berindei
Assignee: Dan Berindei
Fix For: 8.2.0.Alpha2
ISPN-5465 introduced the {{KeyPartitioner}} interface to allow custom mapping of keys to hash segments, but only in embedded mode.
The HotRod protocol doesn't necessarily need changes, the server and client just need to use the same {{KeyPartitioner}}.

[JBoss JIRA] (ISPN-6027) Use bundler sender-sends-with-timer by default
by Dan Berindei (JIRA)
Dan Berindei commented on ISPN-6027:
------------------------------------
We handle commands in Infinispan's thread pool, without blocking the OOB thread. However, we do the unmarshalling on the delivery thread, and unmarshalling also takes some time, so batching may hurt us there. On the other hand, messages marked {{OOB | DONT_BUNDLE}} are always delivered on separate threads, and the {{DONT_BUNDLE}} flag doesn't seem to affect our performance with {{TransferQueueBundler}}.
Another potential problem with {{TransferQueueBundler}} is that you have a single bundler thread sending messages to all destinations, unicasts and broadcasts, as if you had a single lock on the transport. Without a bundler, you have a lock per connection, so you can send messages to multiple targets in parallel.
> Use bundler sender-sends-with-timer by default
> ----------------------------------------------

> Key: ISPN-6027

> Performance tests show {{sender-sends-with-timer}} is still a bit faster than {{transfer-queue}}, so we should make it the default.

[JBoss JIRA] (ISPN-6027) Use bundler sender-sends-with-timer by default
by Bela Ban (JIRA)
Bela Ban commented on ISPN-6027:
--------------------------------
The question is what happens when I deliver a batch of OOB messages to Infinispan. If they are handled one-by-one, then things will be slower. I was under the impression that each message in such a batch would get inserted into Infinispan's own thread pool and the batch processing would return immediately. We need to investigate whether this is indeed the case. If so, then processing a batch of OOB messages should be faster then processing them individually, plus extert less stress on the JGroups OOB thread pool.
I'll try to test this with IspnPerfTest when I get a chance.

> Performance tests show {{sender-sends-with-timer}} is still a bit faster than {{transfer-queue}}, so we should make it the default.
