Btw Pete, refresh my memory if necessary, but isn't JSR-107 gonna enable such API? If
so, maybe worth waiting for 107 and then simply implement it, rather than thinking about
the SPI itself here?

In an environment such as JBoss AS, where there is some sort of consistent identification
of deployments across nodes (i.e. a deployment id) this SPI can be used to attach the
deployment id to the serialized data, and then on deserialization used to locate the
correct classloader to use
