Serializing a proxy, stores the session factory uuid to be used upon deserialization to get the session factory: SessionFactoryImplementor sf = (SessionFactoryImplementor) SessionFactoryRegistry.INSTANCE.getSessionFactory( sessionFactoryUuid ); If I try to deserialize the proxy in a different JVM (e.g. after restart), the session factory uuid will be different and deserialization will fail with NullPointerException because no session factory is found with old uuid. The example above uses optimistic locking according to e1.getLockMode(foo1). This seems to be the default? This is also the lock mode I got in Wildfly when I originally discovered the problem. I wasn’t aware you can run hibernate without transaction management / locking. I’m totally not an expert on this, but from my current point of view the lock mode operates on a per table row basis. This would not be sufficient to protect against this kind of problem. The root of the problem is that hibernate only updates the indices of the list elements it thinks have changed. This is what effectively prevents locking from kicking in here because the other table rows never get touched but have to be considered to keep the indices sane. It should take into account that other indices might have changed in the meantime. Use optimistic locking or pessimistic locking. I am attempting to manually implement a zero-downtime reindexing (ES backend) as outlined in the docs: https://docs.jboss.org/hibernate/search/6.0/reference/en-US/html_single/#... But when creating the new index (by calling the ES API directly) I don’t see how to post the index mappings along with the new index. Create a new index, myindex-000002. I’m attempting to do this when our mappings change so I can’t just get the existing JSON from the ES API and copy them. I believe I need to use the ES API directly rather than using the SchemaManager in hsearch, because schema management doesn’t like the read/write aliases pointing to different indexes: HSEARCH400593: Index aliases [test_indexed_entity-write, test_indexed_entity-read] are assigned to a single Hibernate Search index, but they are already defined in Elasticsearch and point to multiple distinct indexes: [test_indexed_entity-000002, test_indexed_entity-000001] Am I taking the wrong approach or just missing how to access the updated IndexMetadata ? Spring boot was picking up the older version even after I put in the newer version. After upgrading the project to spring boot 2.3.1, this issue has been resolved.
