I start (or more presicely deploy) the app during build because I want to catch most problems during build and because it speeds up starting the containers. My only option now are the deprecated subclasses of PostgresqlDialect, or to write such a subclass myself (perhaps my best option now). Handling of limit/fetch and offset clauses is now covered by the SqlAstTranslator contract. You can override Dialect#getSqlAstTranslatorFactory() and return a custom subtype of DB2SqlAstTranslator which returns false in an override of org.hibernate.dialect.DB2SqlAstTranslator#supportsOffsetClause , but shouldn’t you rather use the DB2zDialect instead? Also, according to the documentation, DB2 z/OS supports the offset clause since version 12. Are you using an older version? If so, the org.hibernate.dialect.DB2zSqlAstTranslator#supportsOffsetClause should already take care of that. So if you have values 1,null,2 and order by them, where does the DB put nulls by default. This is used to determine when the SQL can omit the nulls clause. In H2, null is the smallest, so the default implementation is to return SMALLEST , which means that order by x asc nulls first or order by x desc nulls last would be simplified to simply order by x and order by x desc. It hasn’t been done, but should in theory be possible. At the moment our only way to contribute that mapping to would be to cast the {{MetadataImplementor}} passed to {{AdditionalJaxbMappingProducer}} to a {{InFlightMetadataCollector}}. In principle, the @Loader annotation should refer to a named query with a @CollectionResult , but the @CollectionResult annotation simply doesn’t exist, and be added without duplicating the whole @SqlResultSetMapping annotation. Nevertheless, I think I’ve found a workaround that lets you use a named query with a @ColumnResult or @EntityResult to load the collection. This is already how hbm.xml is processed. This work would apply that to annotations and orm.xml processing as well. The approach has benefits in addition to the processing unification, such as - * Avoiding use of library APIs in processing. Ultimately we want to move to Jandex over HCANN for annotation consumption - see https://hibernate.atlassian.net/browse/HHH-9489 ( https://hibernate.atlassian.net/browse/HHH-9489 ). Using this abstraction will make that migration much simpler. * Allows support for both dynamic models (MAP mode) and entity-name models.
