previous version of ann maps byte[] with @Lob property to
org.hibernate.type.PrimitiveByteArrayBlobType, it is actually a BlobType, and it calls
st.setBlob()
actually, if you set hibernate.jdbc.use_streams_for_binary true, you will get the same
error.
so, the simple workaround is change the property type to Blob, yeah, i know it is bad...

Hm... it doesn't sound good, because it's breaks current system. Is there any
chance to revert reading blobs using blob.getBytes(), in a way of some configuration
parameter, or put back the PrimitiveByteArrayBlobType so I could annotate my @Lob wit
@Type("old_working_blob") :)
In any way I want to thank you for above information, as I now know what to change to make
it work (unfortunate I can't build trunk to jar, because of test fails).
And by the way, I've forgotten to mention this
When Hibernate creates @Lob byte[] column it sets it's type to oid - this will cases
full trip "create -> use" to fail (from above reasons).

I think last comment from my side
1. @Type(type="image") doesn't resolve problem I still get 6 bytes oid
value, nor compatible=7.1
2. PrimitiveByteArrayBlobType is the way - (maybe some warning during entity deployment
about this type will be good)
Can I suggest to put in @deprecated note of PrimitiveByteArrayBlobType following
information "Left for backwards compatibility" - just to don't accidentally
delete of it in the future.
Please remember that @Lob byte[] creates oid type column in PgSQL.

This issue prevents us from migrating to 3.5. We use an external library that ships
@Lob-annotated entity classes which breaks on PostgreSQL.
