We are using a Spring Boot application (with Spring Cache and Spring Session) and maybe this could be the problem. My configuration is:

We assumed that upgrading to JGroups 4.0.18.Final, which includex JGRP-2324, would fix the issue.
Apparently not, as a 9.4.x pull request build hanged in {{ThreeWaySplitAndMergeTest.clearContent}} with the same symptoms:
