Sometimes when a server is under a heavy load a connection validator timer thread gets
crashed by

org.jboss.remoting.ConnectionValidator.run() should not be called directly; use
org.jboss.remoting.ConnectionValidator.addConnectionListener() instead.

It seems an additional synchronization on (lock) is needed in the 'start' method
