For the stopgap I agree with Ray that a more muted color would be better....perhaps even partially translucent to solve the cover problem. But I still think we should look for an alternative to the diagonal ribbon, which is really overdone.

I think that the ribbon works on a larger canvas, like on the TicketMonster homepage.

You also made a good selection for the colour.

I will stand behind my opinion, though, that the quality of the stock github ribbons is not great. They should have been created as SVGs, but they were created as raster graphics. Thus, the edges are very pixelated and the text is blurry, even in the photoshop files. There's not much we can do without recreating them from scratch.

As I stopgap I think it's fine to push live, but I would prefer it be something that doesn't cover so much of the content. It's not bad on the carnival photo, but it really covers up the TicketMonster poster slide and takes away the smooth look on the clock slide. I also noticed when we had that ribbon on arquillian.org for a while that the quality of the original graphic is really not that great, not the best starting point. I think a much better approach to take to the design group is to do a bottom 3rd line (like you see on news or sports programs on TV).
