Re: [forge-dev] Help needed
by Lincoln Baxter, III
So it turns out the only problem was that I was missing a few paths in the
RuntimeClasspathSpec, which I only discovered when I started migrating it
over to your suggestion of using the SystemDepSpec instead.
I was missing javax/inject (lol) and net/sf/cglib/proxy, which would
explain some of the very strange behavior... like injection points not
being created for classes, etc. Strange that weld did not warn me... I will
file an issue for that.
If you want to see everything shiny and working, go ahead and pull down the
latest and run a normal `mvn clean install` :)
Thanks for your help!

Forge plugin for different Application Servers
by Rafael Soares
Hello guys.
I'm a completely newbie Forge user. Looking on Forge plugins I was
wondering how complex would be develop a plugin for Glassfish v3 AS.
I've cloned the jboss-as7 plugin from Github to look at the code and I
could observe it uses the AS7 CLI API to interact with or manage the JBoss
AS7. But I was wondering if would be possible to manage an AS using just
it's Maven Plugin or a REST API (if provided by AS).
Many modern Application Servers, as JBossAS7, has Maven Plugin which
supports basic management functions (start, stop, deploy, redeploy), and
some others has REST Management APIs. So, I would like to know what do you
think about use these kind of API to develop AS management plugins instead
specific AS management API (like AS7 CLI API)?
Thanks.

Help needed
by Lincoln Baxter, III
Hey Everyone!
I've been working on Forge 2.0, and it looks like I've hit a very strange
problem that I am having difficulty solving. It involves Surefire Maven
Plugin and the Forge Arquillian tests.
The tests work fine in eclipse, because Eclipse launches using a real java
classpath, however...
Because of how Surefire handles
classloading<http://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-surefire-plugin/examples/class-load...>,
Forge is not properly finding classes, booting weld, and loading addons.
I've gotten close to a solution a few times, but I've not been able to find
the exact concoction that gets things working.
Anyone have experience with this feel like taking a look?
Just check out the Forge 2.0 branch from https://github.com/forge/core,
first *cd* into the maven-far-plugin directory, install it with `mvn clean
install`, then return to the main directory and run `mvn clean install`,
you should then see the failures I am describing.
Thanks!

Forge at the Devoxx 2012 Hackergarten
by Dan Allen
As you may have seen, there will be a full-day hackergarten (hackfest /
workshop) at Devoxx 2012 [1]. I saw in the logs that you were discussing it
at the end of today's meeting. I'd definitely like to see the Forge project
represented there. It's a great opportunity for attendees to get hands on
with Forge and to get more people interested in contributing.
I'm looking for a few things:
- thumbs up that you want Forge involved
- a list of people that would like to be mentors (looking for 1 to 3 people)
To make the event successful you should perhaps create a wiki (or website)
page that has:
- a link to a setup guide so participants are ready to start hacking
- a list of ideas / goals to accomplish; the starter tasks are good for
this, or perhaps tutorials (to build experience)
As far as Forge is concerned, I think the focus of the event should be to
get people familiar with using Forge and either writing plugins (easier
goal) or hacking the core (more lofty goal).
Btw, the hackergarten is a good opportunity to give out mini-cards, buttons
or whatever else you have to distribute.
