this can be reproduced by the org.hibernate.test.annotations.lob.LobTest,
testSerializableToBlob, testClob, testBlob all fail due to this issue.
and yes, Stephane, use Environment.useStreamForBinary() to identify if should use stream
is not a good idea, since it ignores the default properties configed in the dialect, from
Oracle8iDialect(others inherit from this one), you can see

getDefaultProperties().setProperty( Environment.USE_STREAMS_FOR_BINARY, "true"
);
{quote}
but your suggestion doesn't work either, because of the session factory's
properties comes from the Configuration, and if you don't set the property in it, your
method will returns false

When migrating my project that works well with Hibernate 3.5.6 End-to 3.6.0.Final the
Clob field displays the following error
