Sven, I'm guessing that you are actually using MaterializedClobType, not ClobType.
MaterializedClobType is used for properties that are annotated with @Lob and declared as a
Java String. MaterializedClobType works if hibernate.jdbc.use_streams_for_binary=true.
If you are using 3.6.0, I don't see how a property annotated with @Lob and declared as
a Java Clob can work with hibernate.jdbc.use_streams_for_binary=true.
I'm using Oracle10gDialect with Oracle JDBC 10.0.2.0, which does not support the
"contextual LOB creation".
What version are you using? Could you be using a version that does support
"contextual LOB creation" with hibernate.jdbc.use_streams_for_binary=false?
Please check your log for the setting Hibernate detects for
hibernate.jdbc.use_streams_for_binary.

When migrating my project that works well with Hibernate 3.5.6 End-to 3.6.0.Final the
