we basically just need to enable automatic updates preference in eclipse, have it
notify/check on startup.
question is if we should repeat this notification or just check on startup?

we should look at enable "check automatically for updates" in JBDS making
eclipse check for updates in the background and pop up a 'mylyn' notification in
case there are new updates.
important this does not cause problems for users without network access and with proxies
that might muddy the network waters.
