Hi all
As discussed in the recent blog (and demo), Hawkular BTM now provides Application
Performance Management (APM), Distributed Tracing (DT) and Business Transaction Management
(BTM).
The project was initially started to address the third area, hence being called BTM -
however BTM requires the collection of the information used to provide APM and DT - and
providing those other views on the information is useful to users.
Due to the wider scope, just wondering whether the BTM name is now misleading. If a
project component rename was considered a good idea, then now would probably be the best
time to do it, before getting close to a stable 1.0 version?
So two questions:
1) Is a component rename a good idea?
2) If so, any suggestions for a name, either some generic term that encapsulates APM, DT
and BTM - or alternatively a completely unrelated name (but then it would not follow the
pattern used by other Hawkular components).

Extracting some ideas from MiQ.
They uses the term "Performace" as a wider concept that is focus in the health
of the system.
So how it sounds

Was looking at the wikipedia page for APM:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_performance_management
Their definition (conceptual framework) includes user defined 'business
transactions' as well, which fits with the project - so possibly Hawkular APM.
Although if inclusion of 'performance' maybe indicates too much of an IT tool,
rather than a tool for IT and Business, then possibly Hawkular App Manager?

Unfortunately I think fuse have a component called "Insight", and used by other
companies, so probably would lead to confusion.

Agree, but Application is much longer, especially as we would need some other term,
ApplicationManager, etc.
Good thing is that every suggestion so far seems to focus more on the application concept,
so we are narrowing it down :)

The alternative that would follow the naming convention of the rest of the
Hawkular components would I think be "Hawkular Performance Management" or
"Hawkular Application Performance" which is a little bit too much of a
mouthful for my taste...

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the discussion.
We've now got approval to change the name to Hawkular APM - so this change will happen
over the course of the next week or two. Once completed, I'll blog about it.
