M5 spin status :: no aggregate or JBDS installers available yet; many bot and non-UI test failures, plus one inter-build compilation failure

Since turning on the stable branch jobs, here's what's borked... https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-10349 Still trying to get a clean stable_branch aggregate build (and then JBT builds too) - last time the aggregate failed due to missing Central, OTDT, and OpenShift (hadn't spun clean yet). --- Details: - hibernate : test failure in org.hibernate.eclipse.console.test - jbpm : test failure in org.jboss.tools.jbpm.convert.test - jsf : test failure in org.jboss.tools.jsf.vpe.jsf.test - maven : 15 bot test failures (same failures in trunk) ... should these just be turned off and only run locally / manually? - struts : COMPILE FAILED - upstream bits missing? "The import org.jboss.tools.jst.web.validation cannot be resolved." --- There are also a few jobs for which the latest build failed, but at least we have one good build since branching. This suggests we're having some stability issues w/ a few Jenkins slaves, but at least we're getting clean spins when the server is quiet(er). = archives : aborted build? Please take care of CI job for your component!

Hi all, This is a warning since we plan a code freeze for tomorrow: a lot of jobs are failing (timeout, or just compilation or assembling issue, or Jenkins configuration). As developers on a component, you must react to a build becoming red, so don't ignore Jenkins mail notifications, read the log when a build fails and*fix it ASAP*, if you can. You may be interested in receiving mails specifically for your component, so you can add you mail address on the Configuration page, "Mail notifications" section. In some cases, log is explicit and shows what file crashed the build. So you can guess what you need to do to fix it. In other cases, it is be an environment issue, then open a ticket to the Build/Releng component and assign it to Nick or I depending on your timezone, so we can help to get the job back to work. Since we are moving to bigger components, with more isolation, you really need to be careful about the status of your component CI job. Please don't wait for QE or Build crew to discover issues and fix it, it simply won't scale. Hey Barry: You'll probably really want to investigate using JBossTools if you want some ready-made APIs to really help send management commands. Also, discovering the management port will require you either parsing xml yourself or accessing some string constants in our server. Let's start with host. All IServer objects in WTP can get the host simply by server.getHost(), so that's easy. For getting the management port, there are a few ways to do it. The first is with raw xml, searching the proper file. The xpath you'll need and file data is: as7.0 xpath: //*[local-name()="management-interfaces"]/*[local-name()="native-interface"] as7.1 xpath: //*[local-name()="socket-binding-group"]/*[local-name()="socket-binding"][@name="management-native"] xpath attribute: port file to search: standalone/configuration/${jboss_config_file} (probably standalone.xml) Obviously here the xpaths differ based on jboss version. AS7.0 has one xpath. AS7.1 has a different. However, none of these allow the 'overrides' available in the UI. In the JBossTools UI, you can double-click the server to see the editor. There's a port section there, and there's the opportunity to ignore the xml value and override it via UI. So if the default xpath has 9999 but somehow you're using more complicated features in the standalone.xml such that the actual value is 9998, you'll need to override this in the UI. So how to get this value that respects the user's UI choices? Well, two ways. One is by using hard-coded strings (if you want to avoid dependency on jbosstools). If you don't mind having dependencies on jbosstools, the best way to get this port is as follows: JBoss7Server jb7 = server.loadAdapter(JBoss7Server.class, null); if( jb7 != null ) { return jb7.getManagementPort(); } So what other benefits can JBT provide other than just helping to find the port? Well, we can also run your remote commands for you. JBoss7 servers have a remote management service registered in eclipse, which can run your remote commands and return the results. The first is our management service. The service interface is IJBoss7ManagerService. You can see a lot of methods there for deploying or stopping a server. But there's also a method to run arbitrary commands: public String execute(IAS7ManagementDetails details, String request) throws Exception; The way to access this service is via the following command: JBoss7ManagerUtil.getService(iserverObject); This API ensures that if for example the protocol changes slightly (either intentionally or as a bug) between as7.1 and as7.2 / as8.0, the proper service is returned for the proper AS version. Using these APIs ensure that all the management jars are of the proper version, talking to the proper remote version. It's possible to do all of this on your own, but I'm pretty sure you'll find it a LOT more trouble and you'll simply be replicating our work. And worse yet, how you intend to get the jboss-as jars on the classpath is a point of interest. We currently will be bundling the management jars for each version (or more specifically for any set of jars that cannot talk to each other. We also work hard to ensure that regressions upstream (ie a new version unable to talk to older ones) is fixed promptly). If you intend to bundle these jars, it'll be inflating the size of your product substantially. And you'll most likely be re-engineering our solution for separation of version jars. So we've already discussed how to get the port via xml, and how to get a port that respects user settings. We've discussed how to get the management service regardless of app-server version. From there, running the default commands is simple. CODE FREEZE & BRANCHING FOR JBoss Tools 4.0.0.Alpha1 / JBDS 6.0.0.Alpha1 (previously called M1) WILL HAPPEN IN THE NEXT 90 MINS

Reminder, as today is Code Freeze for our first milestone toward JBT 4 and JBDS 6 (which was previously called M1 but is now called Alpha1), I'll be branching the code in about an hour and a half, barring major objections. The jobs are already queued up to go, I just need to create the two branches for JBT and JBDS svn repos. Detecting a jboss 7.1 server startup

Hi, For Teiid Designer, I am trying to add our own extension nodes to the tree in the Servers View, where the nodes display the details of the Teiid Server deployed on jboss. This is working really well bar a couple of threading problems. My Eclipse IDE has a jboss 7.1 instance started so I run an RCP application, which is a clone of the eclipse workbench, to display my developed plugins (call this RCPAPP). In RCPAPP, I have configured a jboss 7.1 runtime server that assumes its started, pointing to the one in my IDE. I expand the tree view in the Servers View and this displays the disconnected teiid server node correctly. I click start in the Servers View and that is when RCPAPP freezes. Looking at the threads, main and worker-0 (decorator thread) both try to adapt the IServer for different purposes and its a toss up which calls the adapter first. The one that gets there first then tries to interrogate the IServer using the following: String requestString = request.toJSONString(true); String resultString = JBoss7ManagerUtil.getService(server).execute(new AS7ManagementDetails(server), requestString); return ModelNode.fromJSONString(resultString); I have used this to detect whether the server has started so the request string looks like this: // Request that finds the name of the server ModelNode request = new ModelNode(); request.get(OP).set(READ_ATTRIBUTE_OPERATION); request.get(NAME).set(NAME); If the request throws an exception that its not connected. This just isnt working since this stalls at: Object.wait(long) line: not available [native method] FutureResult$1(AbstractIoFuture<T>).await(long, TimeUnit) line: 101 ProtocolChannelClient.connectSync(CallbackHandler, Map<String,String>, SSLContext) line: 140 ManagementClientChannelStrategy$Establishing.getChannel() line: 166 RemotingModelControllerClient.getOrCreateChannel() line: 138 So can you help? 1) Any info as to why the request would be stalled even though the server has been started in the IDE but not completely in RCPAPP. 2) Can you suggest a better way in java to conclude that the server (and maybe the IServer) has been completely started. I have found [1] but not quite sure whether this would be suitable for a jboss 7.1 that has already started Happy to provide further information (offlist or irc if preferred), as required. The thread dump of the RCPAPP at the point of freeze is attached. * Worker-1 is the stalled thread while main is waiting on a sync lock for worker-1 to complete its adaptation of the IServer to a TeiidServer (POJO modelling the teiid server). JBoss Tools 4 / JBDS 6 :: M1 will now be called Alpha1

In order to: a) adhere to the official jboss.org rules for versioning [1] and b) to avoid causing anyone who's installed an early milestone (eg., 4.0.0.M2) to have to first UNINSTALL before being able to update to our 4.0.0.Beta1 release Eclipse, we've renamed the first milestone, M1, to Alpha1. This allows us to move through the OSGi ASCII sequence Alpha, Beta, CR, Final, and GA, with each more stable milestone able to act as an update for the previous. * JIRA targets in JBIDE and JBDS have been renamed. Your issues will move automatically to the new version targets. Please update your queries. * JBoss Tools' parent pom is now 4.0.0.Alpha1 instead of 4.0.0.M1. I've updated all the components' root poms in both JBT and JBDS SVN trees to use the newly versioned parent pom, and published the new pom to nexus. See also JBDS-1987 and JBDS-2251.
