Two issues present when installing from the 3.7.0 nightly build update site within Eclipse
Indigo M6a:
1) Upon clicking everything in the list of install items (except the one that says
"All JBoss Tools 3.2.0"), after everything is downloaded and the installation

I see three issues here - please split into three jira (or open subtasks) to track them.
1. 3.3 site has "3.2" label on it - committed a change so this should be fixed
after respin. Please verify.
2. esb plugins/features are not on the 3.3 nightly site - may have been caused by
transition of the site (eg, you checked it while a new version was being published. please
try again:
http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/nightly/trunk/features/ shows esb feature
from build H213 is present (not H212).
3. "too many open files"

2. I will check this as soon as I have the time as I will have to reinstall and redownload
everything since I cannot use the Eclipse that I have due to the other issue.
3. I am unsure as to how the "too many open files" thing impacts me, that is not
the error I am getting. Are you saying that JBT has too many plug-ins?

2. You can cheat by using the JBT target platform zip - one big download instead of lots
of little ones; also means a cached copy of all the stuff you need on disk instead.
You can also install stuff from one Eclipse install into another to save time. Point the
new Eclipse install at the old one's profile folder:

2. I decided to try downloading from the update site again (with a fresh Eclipse Indigo
install) to test it since that's where the issue was (but your info is great, is that
in one of our guides already, if not I should add it).
Upon trying to download from the update site again, I was faced with the following
issues:
- First I tried download just the "All of JBoss Tools 3.3" package but I was
faced with an erorr about a missing 'mozilla' plug-in.
- I then tried selecting everything except "All of JBoss Tools 3.3" I got the
following error:

3. Ah, ok, I see, thanks. I tried the workaround but it didn't change anything in my
original install of Eclipse Indigo, but after trying a fresh install and putting the
workaround in from the beginning (and performing the above tasks of trying to install JBT
3.3) it worked :S
Finally, after Eclipse restarted with JBoss Tools 3.3 installed it would not contact any
update or install sites. Once closing Eclipse and re-launching it would then contact the
sites.
It seems that this is quite volatile. I think most of this can possibly be associated with
Eclipse Indigo still being in development, however this is not my area of expertise so
I'm passing all this info along to you so you can make that judgement ;)

After installing the rest of the plug-ins that were missing from the "All JBoss Tools
3.3" install, I now cannot start Eclipse and see this error again:

Even though I followed the workaround that said to: "add osgi.bundlefile.limit=600 in

I was getting those errors when starting Eclipse with WTP/EMF/GEF/BIRT/JBT plugins.
Eclipse opens more files than the default ulimit command specifies on some distribution.
osgi.bundlefile.limit doesn't permit Equinox to open more files than it is specified
by that property, but plugins open their own files. I suppose that JBT also opens a lot of
files.
This issue doesn't have to be caused by leaking file handles. It is enough that
plugins simultaneously open a lot of files.
The best workaround would be to increase the open file limit (the default is usually 1024
which is too low).
BTW There is a file handle leak in the JSF2ComponentValidator.isValidate() method, but I
think, it has no effect on this problem.

I am not sure if there is any other solution. Eclipse 3.7 opens much more files than
Eclipse 3.6.
Eclipse 3.7 Indigo RC1 opens more than 700 files when starting, for instance.
Since the limit is user based and the user uses other programs that open files, the
default limit can be easily reached.
P2 also opens a lot of files as shown in the log. I suppose users will have the same
problem when installing any larger project on Eclipse Indigo 3.7.
If we are opening too many files at the same time that should be
checked out - any good way of tracking that you know of ?
There is the lsof command on Linux to track open files.
about the validate method - did you open a jira for that one ?

I have tried to install JBT 3.3 from
http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/nightly/trunk/ in order to test the number of
open files.
The installation hasn't succeeded because the update site doesn't contain the jbpm
feature and doesn't add the required sites: m2e, BIRT...

This is an upstream issue.
When updating/installing a plugin, Eclipse opens all jarred plugins and doesn't close
them until shutdown.
The steps to reproduce the issue are the following:
- set ulimit -f to > 20000
- install Eclipse IDE for Java Developers 3.7RC3, JBT Tools, m2eclipse, m2eclipse-wtp
Maven Support
- start Eclipse without the -clean option
Eclipse will start normally.
- exit Eclipse
- set ulimit -f to 1024
- start Eclipse without the -clean option
Eclipse will start normally. JBoss Tools plugins are not the cause of the issue.
- exit Eclipse and start it with the -clean option
or
- install/update some plugin (QuickImage http://psnet.nu/eclipse/updates, for instance)
and restart Eclipse
You will get the "too many open files" error.
- set ulimit -f to >20000
- start Eclipse with the -clean option and exit it
- set ulimit -f to 1024
- start Eclipse without the -clean option
Eclipse will start normally.
The problem happens only when Eclipse reinitializes plugins (starting with the -clean
option or restarting after install/update) and there are a lot of jarred plugins (my
testing environment has 857 jarred plugins). It doesn't matter if those plugins are
JBT or not.
