According to https://issuetracker.springsource.com/browse/STS-3602, which is closed *Won't Fix*, this problem still exists w/ SpringIDE 3.4 (included in JBDS 7.1.0.CR1 version of Central), so this may still be a problem for JBDS 7.x (and might end up being fixed in a later SpringIDE release, to be included in JBDS 8.
To test JBDS 7.1.0.CR1 Central, add this to your ~/jbdevstudio/studio/jbdevstudio.ini (or eclipse.ini) file after the -vmargs line:
-Djboss.discovery.directory.url=https://devstudio.jboss.com/updates/7.0-staging/devstudio-directory.xml
