[JBoss JIRA] (TOOLSDOC-339) NeedInfo: Which aspects relating to the palette are JBT/JBDS specific?
by Alexey Kazakov (JIRA)
Alexey Kazakov commented on TOOLSDOC-339:
-----------------------------------------
The palette view is a part of Eclipse GEF. But it does not provide any content. So if you install Eclipse + GEF without JBoss Tools you will be able to open the Palette view but it will be empty. JBT provides content for this view.
We actually have two palettes which use the same standard Eclipse GIF view:
- Our new *HTML5/Mobile Palette*. This palette has a set of html/js widgets which can be used in HTML5 documents. If you have an html file opened with JBoss Tools HTML Editor and this file has an HTML5 doctype declaration (<!DOCTYPE html>) then the Palette view shows our HTML5 Palette. This palette so far has only *jQuery Mobile* widgets but we are going to add some other HTML5 libraries there. We also plan to add a few pure HTML5 widgets (img, audio, video, form, ...) to this palette.
Almost everything you see in this palette is JBT specific: look&Feel, wizards, filter filed, ...
- Our old *JSF Palette*. This palette is shown for any HTML3/4, JSP or XHTML documents.
This palette has a set of JSF libraries (Standard JSF Core and HTML, RichFaces, Seam). This palette may be useful for JSF projects.
You cannot see both palette (it uses the same view) for the same file. It makes sense since JSF widgets are used in XHTML documents but jQuery Mobile is used in HTML5 documents. So you cannot mix JSF widgets and jQueryMobile in the same document.

> I can see that jQuery Mobile is new to the palette and it is provided by us (JBT/JBDS).
> * Please can you give me an overview of what else, if anything, in the palette is JBT/JBDS specific (so not a standard part of Eclipse).
> * Why is jQuery provided in a separate palette to JSF etc.?
> http://docs.jboss.org/tools/whatsnew/jst/jst-news-4.1.0.Alpha1.html made me wonder if JSF etc. in the palette were still JBT/JBDS exclusive or whether they had been given to Eclipse like the JSF etc. configurators.
> Thanks.

> Improve project wizards in JBoss Central : Proxy Wizards
> --------------------------------------------------------
>
> Key: JBIDE-13987
> URL: https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-13987
> Project: Tools (JBoss Tools)
> Issue Type: Feature Request
> Components: central
> Affects Versions: 4.1.0.Alpha1
> Reporter: Fred Bricon
> Assignee: Max Rydahl Andersen
> Labels: new_and_noteworthy, respin-b
> Fix For: 4.1.0.Beta1
>
>
> The "Start from scratch" section (formerly known as Project section) in JBoss Central needs to support the following requirements :
> - wizard list (label/order/description) must be updateable remotely
> - show wizards (including the proper icon) even if their contributing plugins are missing
> - when clicking on the wizard link in JBoss Central, if the wizard is available then open it, else, install the required plugins
> The general idea here is to use some kind of proxy wizard. A proxy wizard model should have the following attributes :
> - id : the proxy wizard id
> - label : the proxy wizard label shown in JBoss Central
> - wizardId : the real wizard id used by Central to open the wizard dialog
> - iconPath : the path to the wizard icon (independent of required connector)
> - description : the description shown in Central when hovering over the wizard link
> - requiredConnectorIds : the connector ids to install if the real wizard is not available
> - priority : order in which the wizard is displayed in JBoss Central
> The proxy wizards will be declared in the jboss-discovery.jar plugin.xml (to minimize build / maintenance overhead). The jar will also include the required icons.
> The jar will be fetched remotely by the discovery mechanism but a cached version must be kept for offline usage.
