[JBoss JIRA] (JBIDE-16721) Creation of 2 additional profiles for use with as7/wf
by Rob Stryker (JIRA)
Rob Stryker created JBIDE-16721:
-----------------------------------
Summary: Creation of 2 additional profiles for use with as7/wf
Key: JBIDE-16721
URL: https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-16721
Project: Tools (JBoss Tools)
Issue Type: Enhancement
Components: server
Affects Versions: 4.2.0.Alpha2
Reporter: Rob Stryker
Assignee: Rob Stryker
Fix For: 4.2.0.Beta1
With so many options available, more profiles need to be added to ensure that servers are created correctly, with all settings appropriate, out of the box. For this reason, we will now have 4 profiles:
1) Local
2) Local (Prefers Management Operations)
3) Remote
4) Remote (Prefers Management Operations)
The differences between 1 and 2 are minimal. The server will start via a java launch, and shutdown via management, however, the new managed deployment page will show instead of the old UI.
For 3 vs 4, though, there are several differences. First, in 3), the remote management port will not be exposed. The pollers will be web-port pollers (instead of mgmt pollers), and the shutdown will execute a command over rse. Deployment will be filesystem based over ssh.
In 4), however, mgmt port will be exposed, shutdown will use mgmt api, pollers will be mgmt pollers. Deployment will be using management api.

> 3) Select EAP 6.1 in the Target Runtime

> By default, m2e (<= 1.4) downloads remote nexus indexes on startup.
> - expanding the nexus index is very CPU intensive
> - each workspace eats up at least 500MB once m2e has started.
> It can be disabled in the workspace preferences but ideally, we should disable it by default for all JBDS installation on new workspaces.
> Stock Eclipse Java EE Kepler has this setting turned off by default (see plugins\org.eclipse.epp.package.jee_*\plugin_customization.ini)
> m2e 1.5.0 (M6+) will turn it off by default (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=404417), so JBDS 8.0 will get the new setting for free.
> We should just add org.eclipse.m2e.core/eclipse.m2.updateIndexes=false
> to com.jboss.jbds.product\plugin_customization.ini for JBDS 7.1.1.

[JBoss JIRA] (JBIDE-16720) OpenShift server adapter use case for Data Virtualization
by Max Rydahl Andersen (JIRA)
Max Rydahl Andersen updated JBIDE-16720:
----------------------------------------
Component/s: server
> OpenShift server adapter use case for Data Virtualization
> ---------------------------------------------------------
>
> Key: JBIDE-16720
> URL: https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-16720
> Project: Tools (JBoss Tools)
> Issue Type: Enhancement
> Components: openshift, server
> Affects Versions: 4.1.1.Final
> Reporter: Mark Drilling
>
> We currently have a couple issues with connecting to an OpenShift Data Virtualization instance from the tooling. I'm aware that issues are being addressed for future release, others I'm not sure. This is intended to help guide your development to accommodate this use case.
> Our expected usage with Data Virtualization is a bit different than some others. With DV we expect to deploy via a DV cartridge to OpenShift, then connect to the OpenShift DV instance as a remote server. We typically would not deploy using git push.
> Currently, we connect to an OpenShift DV instance like this:
> 1) Deploy DV cartridge via OpenShift web console.
> 2) Port forward from command line using rhc port-forward
> 3) Set up EAP server instance in the tooling, mark as externally managed and start it. From there we can connect to the DV instance and continue with modeling and deployments in Teiid Designer perspective
> The issues we observed:
> 1) Creation of the OpenShift 'server' forces a git repo to be copied locally. We'd like to simply create the 'OpenShift server' without cloning the repo.
> 2) Can't deploy our downloadable cartridge from the wizard. I believe OpenShift is now (or will soon) allow downloadable carts to be registered, so this problem should be solved as the cart will show up in the cartridge list.
> Our current method of connecting is ok for now, but a simpler usage of the OpenShift server adapter would allow us to more easily manage the instance (e.g. port-forward without going to the command line, viewing logs, etc.)

[JBoss JIRA] (JBDS-2866) CordovaSim Debugger
by Max Rydahl Andersen (JIRA)
Max Rydahl Andersen commented on JBDS-2866:
-------------------------------------------
We shouldn't disable the debugger globally on linux. Since we fully control the launch of these two we could just set the flags to enable gtk 2.
Now if these where using actual launch configurations we could reuse the existing launch mechanism for allowing to set environment varialbes for a process. For now it sounds like we should have an option (enabled by default) to enable GTK2 for the process launched by browsersim/cordovasim.

> The current FireBug Lite in CordovaSim has the following limitations:
> 1) When using LiveReload, the window closes with every reload
> 2) Various "page load" events with console.log statements are not visible in FireBug Lite console, like having console.log() in your deviceready
> http://screencast.com/t/RRGhV9PV
> Note: I forgot to add the Console Cordova plugin, not sure if that is necessary but the window closes, so not sure how I would see the message
