[JBoss JIRA] (JBIDE-20082) Application wizard: it's not userfriendly
by Max Rydahl Andersen (JIRA)
Max Rydahl Andersen commented on JBIDE-20082:
---------------------------------------------
Here are few from top of my head:
I think lots of the issue is that the templates are not actually working out of the box. so besides fixing our UI issues we need to make the templates be more sensible/useful.
* dont show just long list of variables with no particular order.
* warn/error about required fields (or at least make templates that works out of the box - i.e. have git refs filled out)
* label page has no information/context on what its needed for
* let me see what is going to be created before creation happens
* let me delete/undo the creation (i.e. if parts of it fails its tedious to cleanup after it)
* let me edit fields by double clicking - now i need to edit
* find a way to only show the important fields and put rest under "advanced" or something similar to avoid the "wall-of-variables"

> The feedback from various sources says that the current implementation of the application wizard that creates an application on OpenShift v3 via templates is not userfriendly.

[JBoss JIRA] (JBIDE-20095) openshift template does not warn/errror on required values
by Jeff Cantrill (JIRA)
Jeff Cantrill commented on JBIDE-20095:
---------------------------------------
[~maxandersen] In the 3.0 release of OpenShift origin, there is no way of knowing what values are required. I had this conversation with Ben Parees after our conversation about required template parameters. The out outcome of my conversation with Ben:
* We can not make assumptions about required values because empty values could be a legitimate use case
* Owners of https://github.com/jboss-openshift/application-templates were asked to provide sensible defaults for things like source urls
* Post 3.0 enhancement to identify required parameters.
In regards to your questions:
1) I think once we are able to determine what is required we can provide the warning
2) You can delete the pieces are even retry the template though this experience is odd IMO

> using https://github.com/jboss-openshift/application-templates/blob/master/eap/... (v1beta3) a lot of variables are shown, click next/next and all is created except build configs stating "values are required"
> 1) why am I not warned *Before* starting to create things ?
> 2) why cannot undo/delete the things that was created but now useless since buildconfig not created ?

[JBoss JIRA] (JBIDE-19969) JMX plugins have wrong provider?
by Rob Stryker (JIRA)
Rob Stryker commented on JBIDE-19969:
-------------------------------------
The JMX UI provider is clearly wrong. There have been a huge amount of changes to JMX such that it's basically 100% ours now... a complete fork.
The jvm monitor ones, I'm not sure if we should change yet. We've had very few and small changes to it. [~maxandersen] Should we also change the jvmmonitor provider? Does the fact that we've forked it and are now providing it mean we should be the provider?

> Two issues here:
> 1) that it fails
> 2) why is the error dialog not the one with details that shows the actual istatus/error
> 3) why does the error actually not state what the exception is and why does it not just state the file name it is loading from instea dof the full raw string ?

by Nick Boldt (JIRA)
Nick Boldt commented on JBIDE-20064:
------------------------------------
Fixed it again after Jenkins config was reverted somehow. https://github.com/jbdevstudio/jbdevstudio-ci/commit/2103c9b0cb119d950a0b...

> Need to figure out what depends on Eclipse Workbench User Guide 4.2.0.v20120829-072800 (org.eclipse.platform.doc.user) from THREE YEARS AGO.
> Install should only care about Eclipse 4.5.0.v20150519-0824 or newer.

> Maybe the installer is picking up the wrong Eclipse baseline -
> *Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers 1.5.1.20120917-1257* instead of *Eclipse Platform 4.5.0.v20150522-2234* ?
