[JBoss JIRA] (JBTIS-654) JBDSIS stand-alone installer
by Aileen Cunningham (JIRA)
[ https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBTIS-654?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.... ]
Aileen Cunningham commented on JBTIS-654:
-----------------------------------------
When I had Java 7 I did get an error on installation that JBDS does not work with this version of Java. It could be more user friendly and tell me I need Java 8.

> Establish a stand-alone installer for JBDSIS that will contain JBDS and will enable easier installation of JBDSIS components - specifically Fuse Tooling. This Jira is specifically related to the JBDSIS installer. Other usability issues will be handled in other Jira.
> Installation scenario:
> {code}
> 1. If you don't already have one installed, you will need to download and install Oracle or Open JDK 8. (make sure you have Java 1.8 installed)
> 2. Download the JBDSIS installer jar. i.e. wget https://devstudio.redhat.com/9.0/snapshots/updates/integration-stack/9.0....
> 3. Double-click the installer file to run it, or open a terminal and type `java -jar /path/to/installer-*.jar`
> 4. Select 'JBoss Fuse Development' from the 'Select Additional Features to Install' installer window.
> 5. Accept/ respond 'Yes' and restart
> 6. Select Window > Perspective > Open Perspective > Fuse Integration
> {code}
> A prototype installer has already been created - see:

[JBoss JIRA] (TOOLSDOC-729) JBDS 9.1 GA: Release Notes
by Martin Malina (JIRA)
[ https://issues.jboss.org/browse/TOOLSDOC-729?page=com.atlassian.jira.plug... ]
Martin Malina commented on TOOLSDOC-729:
----------------------------------------
[~mhusnain], yes, CDK Tooling is Tech Preview for this release, see here: JBIDE-22047
It seems that the New Features content is now fine. Except for the fact I can see 2 broken images in OpenShift tooling:
First is just under "Under a service deployment, the node displays running Pods and/or Builds in progress."
Second is under this warning: "The application must be fully built and deployed on OpenShift before creating the server adapter, else an error will occur."
The query for Resolved Issues hasn't been fixed yet.

> After a change introduced in jspm 0.16.32 which caused our builds to fail (JBDS-3747) now another issue has arisen causing errors on npm install (both local and in CI environment). Even if this new issue is fixed in jspm, we would still have to face the first issue after updating.
> Therefore I propose to remove jspm entirely. We only use a small fraction of its functionality and it needlessly complicates the build + causes major issues. Since such change is likely to be quite complex, we should slip it after the April release and use an existing quick fix in the mean time.
