New cygwin 2.6.0 released.
At some point download for installer started reported failures because installer was replaced for new one, then it seems was reverted to old one, but it installs cygwin 2.6.0 from online repositories.

I believe this is likely to not be fixed soon, by design of the importer. The importer has the notion of "primary" project detection (Maven, .project) which if detected stops further analysis - in that case, m2e-wtp setting JEE natures. In case no primary project type is found, then there is a second pass of "decorators" project detectors, that look for some less project-structuring files to add some configuration; the JEE detectors are secondary and not called when a project is already detected as Maven.

I never managed to reproduce this issue.
Also, the stacktrace seems not in sync with the current code, and there is a "catch" block in the code that should simply have returned false in case of a NPE.
I believe the version you had was somehow erroneous (picking the code from the previous "playground" plugins.
Feel free to reopen if you can reproduce it.
