[JBoss JIRA] (JBTIS-1015) Latest JBDSIS Target Platform cannot be used locally
by Paul Leacu (JIRA)
[ https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBTIS-1015?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin... ]
Paul Leacu commented on JBTIS-1015:
-----------------------------------
Took another quick look at this. I'm really at a loss on how to proceed. EMF Ecore needs crypto but that will always be a local development system package defined by the local $JDK_HOME/jre/lib/jce.jar (Java Cryptography Extension). Since we're building a target platform that by definition is built statically on a server then expanded locally - the only solution would be for the local project to define where jce.jar is - unfortunately - the TP definition wants to be complete. If there's another solution that can work for a local TP ref I guess I'd go with that. The Integration Stack TP is correct - it just can't cover this situation where the needed plugin is always defined locally...

> Current state of understanding:
> There are 2 different bugs:
> * when using local "Directory": the jars which should be exploded in folder stay in jars
> ** wondering if org.jboss.tools.tycho-plugins:target-platform-utils should be responsible to explode them or if it should be the task for P2 itself?
> ** the implication is that we can't start a CDK server with such a TP
> * when using local "Software site": the JVM packages are not recognized (javax.crypto for instance)
> ** looks like a p2 bugs
> ** the implication is that the TP doesn't resolve at all
> If one of these two bugs can be fixed, we will have a way to consume a local Target Platform.

[JBoss JIRA] (JBDS-4175) NPE/broken functionality/cannot start after install from Red Hat Central into rh-eclipse46-devstudio

Installation of SpringIDE 3.8.3 from https://devstudio.jboss.com/10.0/snapshots/updates/discovery.earlyaccess/... (which includes the AM2 Central site) works and I can then create a Spring MVC project.
!install-springide383-correctly.png|thumbnail! !install-springide383-create-mvc-project.png|thumbnail! !install-springide383-create-mvc-project-done.png|thumbnail!
Note that if you use the AM1 release / staging site, you'll have a bad time.
----
I was also able to install both Teiid Designer 11 and SwitchYard 2.3 from the latest IS discovery site [1] (not the IS update site [2], as there were missing dependencies w/o the IS target platform):
[1] http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/neon/integration/updates/integration...
[2] http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/neon/integration/updates/integration...
!install-integration-stack-441cr1.png|thumbnail!
However, I got an error in the log, related to slf4j - but that might be caused by m2e 1.7.1, not by TD and SY.

> I installed rh-eclipse46-devstudio-10.2-0.20161111.0219.el7.x86_64.rpm and followed Nick's scenario [1]. In Red Hat Central, I clicked "Select All" (it found 36 items), then "Install/Update", did all the confirmations, including a restart. After the restart, Eclipse died on java.lang.NullPointerException. I'm attaching the workspace log (aside from the NPE, it's full of "Could not resolve module").
> I reproduced the problem several times on two different machines. The update for RHBZ#1392095 (rh-eclipse46-eclipse-4.6.1-2.4.el7) isn't necessary, it just makes the reproduction much faster.
> Not sure how related it is, but rh-eclipse46 disallows updating packages installed from RPM [2]. But in the list of software to be installed/updated, I saw, among others, EGit and Mylyn, which are definitely included in rh-eclipse46-base. In any case, I'm attaching the list, too.

was (Author: nickboldt):
Installation of SpringIDE 3.8.3 from https://devstudio.jboss.com/10.0/snapshots/updates/discovery.earlyaccess/... (AM2) works and I can then create a Spring MVC project.
* !install-springide383-correctly.png|thumbnail!
* !install-springide383-create-mvc-project.png|thumbnail!
* !install-springide383-create-mvc-project-done.png|thumbnail!
Note that if you use the AM1 release / staging site, you'll have a bad time.
----
I was also able to install both Teiid Designer 11 and SwitchYard 2.3 from the latest IS discovery site [1] (not the IS update site [2], as there were missing dependencies w/o the IS target platform):
[1] http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/neon/integration/updates/integration...
[2] http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/neon/integration/updates/integration...
