[JBoss JIRA] (JBDS-4539) Review contents of Central - remove old stuff? update to latest?
by Nick Boldt (JIRA)
[ https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBDS-4539?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.... ]
Nick Boldt commented on JBDS-4539:
----------------------------------
Did some digging into the top 10 Central-based installs into jbosstools and devstudio.
Here's the summary:
{code:title=Top 10 Central installs (not including Integration Stack), Sep 1 2016 - Sep 1 2017, sorted by total # non-unique installs}
4568 org.jboss.tools.aerogear.hybrid
4228 org.springframework.ide.eclipse.feature
4044 angularjs-eclipse-feature
2781 edu.umd.cs.findbugs.plugin.eclipse
2603 net.sf.eclipsecs
2423 m2e.wro4j.feature
2372 com.android.ide.eclipse.adt
2267 org.eclipse.egit.mylyn
2231 org.tigris.subversion.subclipse
1717 org.jboss.tools.maven.jbosspackaging.feature {code}
To look at quarterly trends, see https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1aouMDBbTJbUtV9pFfpAHSHguSoSb0u97J... and compare the position of these connectors across different time periods. I don't see any significant gains/losses, despite the usual drop over the summer for ALL installs.
So... if the connector is NOT on the above list, we should probably not bother updating it. But if it IS we should keep it current to encourage people to use Central instead of Eclipse Marketplace, so we can continue to track these installs.

> It's been a while since we reviewed the contents of Central [1] to determine which connectors are being used or not. Perhaps it's time for an overhaul?

[JBoss JIRA] (JBDS-4556) Deselecting components will always deselect items they depend on

> To put this into some understandable language:
> - say I select devstudio
> - then I select fuse tools, which depends on devstudio
> - then I deselect fuse tools and suddenly devstudio is deselected
> This principle works nicely when you select & deselect items when the dependencies have not been selected beforehand. But it is a bit of pain when they have.
> Is there a way to differentiate between the case when the user actively selects the dependency, and when it is selected automatically?

> Attempting to install DevSuite 1.4 never completed, got stuck on waiting for Cygwin.
> Attaching C:\DevelopmentSuite\installer.log, but it doesn't seem like it's got the info. Some of the last messages are Dev Studio installed correctly.
> Cygwin was previously installed in C:\cygwin but not detected by installer so was installing it's own copy in \DevelopmentSuite.
