I would think a blueish dotted border on the selected item would be enough, but maybe even
a blue box with the text inside XOR'ed or simply white so things are still visible
would help?

I tried out smooks again and it seems we still have big problems when it comes to
selection mechanism or at least with how things are colored.
I've recorded a video of it since its hard to explain in words - but basically the
colors varies from greyed out, blue, yellow and outline.
this needs to get fixed for users to actually be able to *see* what is selected and not.
