It turns out that OpenJDK 9 fails to verify the CRC of segmented gzip files correctly:
https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8150469
The patch that implemented the incorrect CRC verification was backported to OpenJDK 8 in
Fedora. It has been removed from Fedora.

Trying to install IS from central early access, I'm getting the following error:
