I've checked the online seam demo in Firefox with Firebug (
http://demo.flamingo.exadel.com/booking/book.seam?cid=11509 ).
When elements are selected in the source DOM tree they are highlighted in the wrong way on
the page as in VPE.
Thus I can make a conclusion that this wrong positioning of the selection rectangle after
applying css rules is a common case for XULRunner.
I'll look for an appropriate bug in Mozilla's Bugzilla if it exists.
