Rob Stryker commented on JBIDE-6116:
------------------------------------
The committed version uses the same model as tomcat for downloading. While this relates to
JBIDE-12581, unfortunately we now have two models doing the same thing. Both are in
plugin.xml though. One is a wtp model, though deprecated. The other is a model in the
"runtime" component.
Without further investigation, I can't simply make as.core depend on runtime. As of
now as / runtime stuff is processed through the integration plugin
o.j.t.runtimes.as.handler. However if the UI 'download' link wants to use a
runtime ui widget, that invovles larger questions about whether we need an integration
plugin or not.
I'm marking this as done but I will open a related issue for unifying the two models
in teh future.
Would be very nice if JBoss Tools would download and install JBoss AS
into a local directory so that manual configuration can be avoided.

Key: JBIDE-6116
URL:
https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-6116
Project: Tools (JBoss Tools)
Issue Type: Feature Request
Components: JBossAS/Servers
Affects Versions: 3.1.0.GA
Reporter: Lincoln Baxter III
Assignee: Rob Stryker
Fix For: 4.0.0.Alpha2
Attachments: JBIDE-6116.patch
When using the GlassFish eclipse plug-in, if the Server Runtime is not currently
installed or configured, the plug-in will give you a chance to configure the Runtime, or
click a button/link to have the plugin go out to the internet, download, and configure the
application server for you.
I think it would be great for new users/usability if JBoss Tools could provide a similar
convenience.
The latest plugin-compatible version of the AS should probably be the target of the
download.
