Snjezana Peco commented on JBIDE-7527:
--------------------------------------
I am going to start implementing this UI as soon as the patch attached to JBIDE-7524 is
applied.
I have a few questions related to the UI:
1) screen 1
I am not sure why we would search directories when starting Eclipse in a new or in an old
workspace. When a directory is scanned once, we know what runtimes are contained in it.
The runtimes we found when searching directories, we just could set in a new workspace. It
takes a long time to scan directories and I am not sure if it would be a good solution to
do it automatically (what if the user sets the root directory - starting Eclipse with JBT
would significantly slow down). Maybe it would be better to add the checkbox "Add
Runtimes to a new workspace". If the user would check the checkbox, we would save
*.epf file in the Eclipse configuration area. When the user starts Eclipse in a new
workspace, we would use *.epf file to recreate the runtimes defined in it. Recreating
runtimes based on *.epf is significantly faster than scanning directories for runtimes.
If the user would add/change runtimes in a scanned directory, he could call scanning that
directory manually.
2) What do you think about adding the OK and Cancel button to the screen 2 (that is opened
with the Edit action). This way we could remove the Search action and the dialog it opens.
The Edit action could be renamed to Edit/Search.
3) In order to add new runtime types, we would have to create an extension point or a
service.
Automatic runtime detection
