Ok, I think this is much closer to a workable solution, but I have more questions. The
default preset makes a lot of sense to simplify things.
What happens if you're in a JDK 5 environment and you default to a 6.0 java facet
version? We're still out of sync and the user would need to know to change the facet.
Is there any way to determine the Java version for the Eclipse workbench and set the facet
version accordingly?

ESB project creation wizard defaults the version of jst.java facet to be "5.0",
there should be a *Modify* button at the first page of the wizard for changing the
project facets and facet version just like other types of WTP project wizard
