I suppose there was an error in the log saying the deletion of the deployment failed. I
checked deploying a compressed war right away (with no prior deployment) and didn't
see any errors.

The current implementation of the archive deployer always removes prior deployments since
we could be switching from exploded to zipped deployment. Nevertheless this is only needed
if a prior deployment really exists.
