I don't see any change. The layout looks and behaves the same (i.e. badly) on basic
pages.
Am I missing something ? Do you have an example of how it was improved ?

The current autolayout for pages.xml gets cluttered with just a few nodes. Maybe consider
using just straight lines and a left to right layout based on target.
