I now tried to reproduce this in the client and was not able!
You getting this response is even more weird since the PaaS is supposed to respond with a
404, the unmarshalling should not occur at all. So to me this is more than weird, I
suspect inconsitency in the service.

I was puzzled too...
I was testing JBoss Tools and JBoss Forge's OpenShift plugin at the same time and
discovered the same problem.
That's why I thought that this issue is related to OpenShift Java client.
In the meantime it turned out that there's something wrong in our devenv.
A Bug has been filed about it: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=807268
Next time I will execute the problematic test-cases through the live env, as well.
I think this bug can be closed.

you're right, forge and jboss tools both use the very same client library we developed
(openshift-java-client), so it's not surprising that both have the very same issue.
Furthermore there really is a unmarshalling bug that I could fix by this report.
