The jBPM New Process Definition wizard will not create a process in the EAR level.
According to the Seam Reference manual, it should go at the EAR level. The Process
Definition created by the wizard creates 3 files in a directory. the components.xml can
not use the directory for the process definition, you get the following on deploy:

an additional issue with jBPM and Seam integration in JBDS 2.1 GA. Once the process
definition is in the ear level and you have the process created from the code, there is an
issue with hot deploy or deploy thru JBDS 2.1 GA.
When running outside of JBDS, this problem does not appear.
The exception is related to the database connection being closed: "You are trying to
use a connection factory that has been shut down"

For Seam the jBPM process editor needs to allow the creation of the process at the EAR
level. So, it is a tooling issue. The tool does not allow this.

Gary - resources are not meant to be in the EAR level!. Please point me to where that is
described as a supported thing ?
Im pretty sure none of that is supposed to work in AS5 where the bug about EAR root being
on the classpath is fixed and thus
no longer possible without explicitly asking for it for legacy reasons.
That said, it sounds like a weird thing that the editor cant create files whereever you
want to have them.

The thing is that when you create a process definition, it does create a new folder (e.g.
called 'myProcess') containing the three files that make up the process definition
(processdefinition.xml, gpd.xml and processimage.jpg). I think that what Gary wants is
that you can create a process definition 'Seam style' in any folder. The naming
scheme should then be myProcess.jdpl.xml, .myProcess.gpd.xml and myProcess.jpg. Currently
it is not possible to create these files in this way, though you can edit them when this
is the naming scheme.
If this is what Gary wants, I agree that it is valuable but I don't think it certainly
cannot be done in JBDS 3.0 anymore.

I did not have any luck putting it in the EJB Project or Web Application.
Basically, the tooling should work for Seam developers. This should be a requirement for
the jBPM tooling.

Max, to the best of my knowledge it is correct, but Koen will know more. Seam simply
passes whatever string the user gives us (such as myprocess1.jpdl.xml) in components.xml
to ProcessDefinition.parseXmlResource() from the jBPM code base - so we do delegate
loading the jBPM (hence the odd scheme of placing it in the ear root, if it were Seam
loading it would need to go into the classpath.

The 'forced folder' approach was just to make sure every aspect of a process
definition is living next to one another. It is a heritage from the very beginning. As I
said, I like Gary's request. It just hasn't been requested before (AFAIK) and I
did not revise or think about it until now.
As for the finding of process definitions. I myself was always under the assumption that
the processes had to reside on the classpath. Maybe they are looked up as files instead of
resources?

About classpath then as far as I know AS 5 does not put EAR nor WAR roots on the classpath
anymore, it was a "bug" in AS 4 so either they changed that in EAP 5 or the docs

The jBPM New Process Definition wizard will not create a process in the EAR level.
According to the Seam Reference manual, it should go at the EAR level. The Process
Definition created by the wizard creates 3 files in a directory. the components.xml can
not use the directory for the process definition, you get the following on deploy:
Caused by: org.jbpm.jpdl.JpdlException: [[ERROR] resource not found:
/seam_drools10_15-ejb/jbpm_to_rules]
at org.jbpm.graph.def.ProcessDefinition.parseXmlResource(ProcessDefinition.java:162)
