and i think that it's better to get the libraries downloaded rather that searching and
sucking in the versioning dilemma

how do you suggest to avoid the versioning dilemma ?
This will be done by using a Maven repository without requiring users to use Maven....for
now I suggest you use m2eclipse or similar to get automatic download of dependent
libraries.

could be a very interesting feature request... 1) one possibility is extract current
Hibernate Tools jars to user specific folder or create special Hibernate library in
eclipse;
2) other idea have some pre configured matrix compatibility to download/install specific
versions may be with m2eclipse or use jboss repository...
also the issue is related with external codegen and use external process for Hibernate
