Guys I can not imagine how you handle/find such real life issues in VPE like I get last
time. Now I know this is my issue in my plugable VPE template (it was NPE exception) - but
how I find this?! This is a really epic story. No exceptions in Error Log - just Eclipse
"graceful" crash with this log in console:

Guys I can not imagine how you handle/find such real life issues in VPE like I get last
time. Now I know this is my issue in my plugable VPE template (it was NPE exception) - but
how I find this?! This is a really epic story. No exceptions in Error Log - just Eclipse

as I told - there is no stack trace at all. To reproduce exception - just trow null
pointer exception in VpeVisualDomBuilder.createNode - you'll get Eclipse crash without
any information - what is a real reason. VpeTemplates is a plugable mechanism - so any
exception in third party code will result crash of eclipse.

exception then?
BTW changing VpeVisualDomBuilder.createNode body to only
throw new NullPointerException();
doesn't crash the JVN (most likely it is local problem for you), but truth is NPE is

is not enough to crash JVM, but it crash JVM on my computer and crash JVM on one more
person computer - after NPE - so could be 1000 computers where result could be the
same...

Guys I can not imagine how you handle/find such real life issues in VPE like I get last
time. Now I know this is my issue in my plugable VPE template (it was NPE exception) - but
how I find this?! This is a really epic story. No exceptions in Error Log - just Eclipse

It looks like exceptions get lost when they thrown in thread called from swt callback. As
a solution all such entries should call code inside Safe runner and report exception to
eclipse log in exceptionHandler method.
As example here is a patch that would get exception reported in error log:

this code has a sense also (it will init xlrunner in more safe manner), but it will not
handle the exceptions in case which I describe in manner which VPE users expect, i.e. if
something wrong in third party template - this exceptions should be catch in that places
which I admit in my patch - so VPE will work (will display the whole page), but will
display a wrong templace with it stub by default.

Guys I can not imagine how you handle/find such real life issues in VPE like I get last
time. Now I know this is my issue in my plugable VPE template (it was NPE exception) - but
how I find this?! This is a really epic story. No exceptions in Error Log - just Eclipse

Because of the VPE templates have been put inside VpeTemplateSafeWrapper now, some VPE
logic fails.
Such as toggling, for instance in VpeVisualDomBuilder line 1041:
if (template instanceof VpeToggableTemplate) {..} fails and toggling is skipped.
So some solution should be found. Probably we should keep VpeTemplateSafeWrapper, but then
all the other VPE code should be updated.

A case of noclassdef issue sounds like a very specific case, possibly a bad dependency ?

Guys I can not imagine how you handle/find such real life issues in VPE like I get last
time. Now I know this is my issue in my plugable VPE template (it was NPE exception) - but
how I find this?! This is a really epic story. No exceptions in Error Log - just Eclipse

yes, it was bad dependency in my test code, but the reason of the issue was make easy to
find such issues without whole eclipse crash - should be possible to find this in error
log - as a stack trace. currently I should debug to find what is happens.
indeed this look like the same issue - but if no chance to fix this for M3 - I'll
create a new issue.
In my particular case - I've fix the issue - but the main goal of this issue - make
3rd party templates safe enough to print error message in error log without eclipse crash
- is not resolved.
