Alexander Rühl edited comment on JBIDE-1966 at 11/14/12 5:53 AM:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The properties file I'm working with is a message bundle of a java gui application,
which has a total of 7,500 lines (containing a lot of comments and blank lines and roughly
5000 properties).
Since this real file contains confidential data from a customer project, I'm attaching
a dummy message bundle with 5000 properties which shows the same effect.
To reproduce:
Open the file with the JBoss Tools Properties Editor in Source tab and try navigating by
PgUp/Down or mouse and input stuff on several places while having the Outline view open.
You will experience significant delays in the visual response to your actions up to a
point where fast input from keyboard shows characters slowly one after another.
Now close (not minimize) the Outline view and the performance will increase significantly,
comparable to the behaviour in the regular Properties File Editor.
My setup is eclipse Indigo 64bit SR2 on Kubuntu Linux 12.10 with according JBoss Tools
version from eclipse Marketplace. But as I said before, the same behaviour shows on
Windows 7 and/or another eclipse version.
PS: I can confirm that with 1000 properties the performance despite being slower as in the
regular editor is still more or less acceptable. With increasing size it gets slower and
slower (when Outline View is open). I don't know if we have an unsually huge
properties file, but I'd say that especially message bundles can grow quite large.

Key: JBIDE-1966
URL:
https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-1966
Project: Tools (JBoss Tools)
Issue Type: Bug
Components: common/jst/core
Affects Versions: 2.0.0.GA
Reporter: Martin Trummer
Assignee: Viacheslav Kabanovich
Fix For: LATER
Attachments: DummyMessages.properties
unfortunately I can't provide a recipe to reproduce the problem.
However: It seems to happen when:
I open 2 properties files - each about 300 lines
I have the properties files open for some time (not using it)
then I add a line and save it: in this case eclipse is stuck for 1-2 seconds.
I only have about 300 properties in the editor.
