To replicate the problem -

I encountered the same issue when trying to install q4e, which is the Apache Maven pluggin
for Eclipse (see http://code.google.com/p/q4e/wiki/Installation and
http://www.eclipse.org/iam/).
The update site is: http://q4e.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/updatesite/
To try and rectify the problem I tried updating my installed software, using the
'Installed Software' tab of the 'Software Updates and Add-ons' screen. I
then got exactly the same bug! It seems this is serious.

I've got Subversive installed on the macosx version mentioned above , I got the exact
same error message at first but as a workaround I enabled 'classic updates' under
capabilities (You then have two sofware updates entries under help one with a sub menu -
thats the old one) and using the old update method to install subversive , I then switched
back to the new software updates to install the connectors.
