This is git's default output location.
Nothing to do with the installation of Git.
There is no way to know what the endusers project directory is - it cannot be the root of
the workspace since that is bad practice and causes problems when importing.

So if this has nothing to do with Git - why does it default to
"/Users/burr/git"? the default value might be "Users/burr/projects"
with a note that says
"we recommend that this NOT be your workspace directory, it will be imported to look
like it is in your workspace but will in fact live at the directory specified here.

it has nothing to do with the *installation of Git*. Of course it has to do with Git - its
your git projects basically.
Why does it default to ~/git ? Ask the egit guys, it is the default output directory for
git based projects in eclipse. You can set it to what you want under eclipse preferences
Team>Git>Default repository folder.
~/projects is just as wrong/confusing since then we would have to introduce yet another
preference for "default location of projects" which would only be listened to by
our wizard - egit wizards would still use ~/git and new native eclipse projects would
still use <workspace> as the default location.
Don't think it would be better we add more to the confusion would it ?
We can add the label warning about it not should go into your workspace if that helps?

it basically is just a location to clone git projects to. but it is the place EGit
defaults to when creating new repositories / cloning repositories to. IMHO we should stick
to the choices in EGit. I'd be fine to better explain that this *Default Location* is
the location the new OpenShift git repo will get cloned to. Ex. by changing "Default
Location" to "Clone destination". Matches your expectations?

I think Clone Destination helps - and if EGit is the culprit for defaulting to the
"git installation" instead of a nice "git projects" directory then it
would be hard for us to correct that.
We may need to re-think what questions are asked that do not have nice defaults - there
are some many steps & questions in the current wizard that it is relatively easy for
the newbie to fall off the trail.

moving this rather important issue further down the lane to have the opportunity to
discuss possible solutions. For Alpha2 we prioritized the proper management of SSH2 keys
