Love the new esb project wizard. Wanted to deploy the esb project to another server (not
configured in JBDS) and wanted to be able to create a .esb archive from the ESB project so
I could deploy it on another server. Don't see any way to do that and can't seem
to find a place in the JBoss deploy directory where a .esb archive is being created when
deployed from JBDS.
Would like team to consider adding "Export | ESB Archive" like there is
"Export | WAR", "Export | EAR", etc. for other types of projects.
Maybe there is a better way to do this, but would like some mechanism to get a .esb file
from a JBDS ESB project.

Rob, wouldn't this make sense to provide as a function of the AS deployer ?
i.e. "Export Deployment" and then our AS server would export the file to chosen
location ?
Or could it be done purely on WTP api ?

I agree that this is not ESB specific, any kinds of project such as Web Project, Java EE
project and Plugin project have the same requirement. however, all of these projects
have provided the "Export" function to export their own archives, I think ESB
project should provide the function following the same way since most of people who know
eclipse might try to use the way to export what they want when they have the requirement.

I disagree.
Those Export XYZ functions made sense when there were only a few things to export - now
there are multiple options and the current ones are broken since they don't use the
right API (they don't ask the server API - ask Rob for details).
Doing a Export Deployment wizard will as far as I know require the exact same code and
when that is done then if users keep asking for it then simply add a keyword shortcut from
esb to this wizard so it will show up or simply add two export options that point to the
same wizard?

A workaround is to use the JBoss deploy-only server where you basically just set a deploy
folder. It's just a server that's really nothing more than a shell for a folder to
deploy to.
This should cover the user's use-case 100%.
I'm trying to trace through the WTP code for export. I'm not gonna lie, it's
overly abstracted, however, to get a basic export as esb should be pretty easy to get up
and running.
As for Max's comment 3,a few things: They don't use the exact API in terms of
getting children modules. They both access the same underlying models (the virtual
component model). The issue we had in the past had to do with the export using different
code than their module adapter did.
I've noticed in the export wizard there is now a section that says "optimize for
server X" so I'll be digging into this a bit more.
Regardless, the ESB project has no children project types, and so if we code it it could
work pretty well and at least be more intuitive for the user to find than the deploy-only
server.

Using the ejb / war / ear export wizards as my base. Contributed a patch to webtools
which traverses a ModuleFactory and zips it up. User shouldn't have to customize
anything. I didn't use the general archive export as the method because I figured we
have a module factory to tell us what needs to be deployed... so all's good.
